Train for life

Meet THE BOX Athlete of the Month – Chris Rodriguez

If you have spent any time at THE BOX, then you you’ve seen our athlete of the month Chris Rodriguez hard at work.  Chris has been getting stronger and faster since he joined our community at THE BOX in April.  We are proud to feature him in this month’s MFACTOR.   Here’s a Q&A we recently did with him.  Enjoy!

THE BOX by MCYCLE Athlete of the Month

Hey Chris, tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Chris Rodriguez.  I’m 20 years old.   I go to FIU where I’m studying fitness, sports science and pre-physical therapy.  I am also a writing tutor at the University.  I live close by in South Miami.

What are your hobbies and interests?
I love to read.  I love art.  I like to sketch and do digital art.  And of course, I love working out.

When did you start working out at The Box and what made you join?
I started in April.  I was looking for a Crossfit nearby and found THE BOX.  I really liked the vibe and immediately felt at home.

Were you super active before joining?
I played football in high school.  I did P90X a couple years ago and really liked it. I also had been going to the gym and doing a lot of cycling.  So I definitely was into fitness already but was looking for more challenge and structure.

What is your favorite part of WODing at THE BOX?  (WOD = Workout of the Day)
I love Olympic lifting.  That’s definitely my favorite.

How has THE BOX changed your life?
I lost 20 lbs and got a lot stronger with my lifts.  I went up 20 lbs on my PR for my squat and my overhead press.  I can also now do pull-ups on my own.  Being part of THE BOX community keeps me really motivated.  It’s such a positive community and everyone is so close.

Any future training or fitness goals?
I plan on doing the Nautica South Beach Triathlon in South Beach  in April, 2014.  I just started swimming and running a lot to build up stamina.

What are your eating habits like?
I mainly focus on keeping my starchy carbs low.

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

Favorite Workout:
Short but heavy are my favorites

Favorite lift?
Clean and Press

What advice would you give to someone just joining THE BOX?
Stick with it, know your limits, make sure you are eating properly

Thanks Chris.  You Rock!!!
